What Is the Emergent Fellows Program?

The Emergent Fellows Program is a three-week virtual fellowship for high school students passionate about environmental policy, research, and public advocacy. Fellows work directly with Saving the Sea's Executive Board, policy analysts, and public engagement team to build real skills in research, writing, and communication.

The fellowship culminates in an original, publication-ready op-ed on an environmental issue of each fellow's choosing — developed through guided workshops, peer collaboration, and real-time feedback from Saving the Sea leadership.

  • Direct mentorship from Saving the Sea's Executive Board and policy analysts
  • Exposure to careers in environmental policy through three guest speaker sessions
  • A publication-ready op-ed and social media content suitable for public distribution
  • A network of peer advocates from across the country
  • A letter of completion from Saving the Sea upon finishing the program
